I have been using Site5 for few months now and there isn't really much to complain about. There's not much to praise about either. I read about their reviews before I signed up and they got pretty positive reviews out there. So I thought I would give them a shot after having headahces with my old host. Well.. support is ok they will do their best to reply you within an hour or so. But they may not be able to solve your problems instantly. It usually took me few tickets to get things sorted and that took quite a lot of time away from me. Server performance is probably their strong point as I have not encountered any downtime so far. But I can't say so for the future. Just hope things will go smoothly. Just to sum it up, for the price that you are paying it's probably ok but not great.
Site5 has worked out well for me so far. 1 of my databases was corrupted recently and I had to ask Site5 to restore a backup. It only took them about 2 hours and my site was up again. Excellent job.
I also like their control panel. It's has got some good features and very easy to use. It's probably one of the best control panels I have ever used.
Support is second to none! They were so quick to response to my problem via email. I also like their live chat. Everytime I ask a question and there will be someone there within a minute.
I, too, had a problem with Site5 very early this year (after 2-3 years of excellent service under their founders) and was unable to have them resolve it satisfactorily (all my clients e-mails were being banned because of sharing the EXIM with a spammer). They would not resolve it by banning the spammer, allowing use of my dedicated IP address for the EXIM transmissions and they wouldn't move me to a "clean" (spamless) server. This was apparently near the end of Brendan Diaz's reign.
I understand that Ben (bweeb) is the new CEO (please correct me if I'm wrong) and has stated in this forum (and other locations) that he's hard at work to resolve the last management team's induced problems. From his explanation of Neil Brennan's problem, I have to agree with Ben (about Neil's case) and hope that he can return Site5 to its former glory.
My recommendation: Sit tight and see whether Ben is successful.
Alright, I figured I'd give everyone a good review of Site5 from what I've experienced. I switched from HostGator after being lied to by their customer support (don't ask, long story).
I registered the Xtreme 7.77 a month plan with Site5 entered a promo code to waive shipping and first month. After I paid I noticed the promo code I had was outdated and I had just spent extra money on setup. It about 2AM I made a post on their forums and created a ticket and went to bed. A few minutes after I had made my post, a rep responded saying he'd take care of it and when I woke up everything was all good. They apologized for the promo code and credited me setup / first month anyway
Their backend is amazing, I love the "dashboard" control panel you get. I have 4 .com's hosted with them -- it's wonderful. Each one gets its own control panel, etc.
Now, the only thing I dislike about the control panels is the amount of passwords I have to remember/have written down. I have a password to login to my.site5.com -- the "dashboard". Then theres 2 admin systems, NetAdmin and MultiSite admin. My main domain gets a multisite admin panel, and each of my domains (including my main one) gets a netadmin panel. The MultiSite panel lets me add .com's to my hosting account and the NetAdmin has everything else (stats, passwords, databases, etc). At this point I have 5 passwords to remember (doesn't seem like much but its confusing which to use in a lot of situations).
Thankfully, I discovered they have a stored passwords option and I set that up and everything is fine. At first I couldn't log in to FTP for my main domain and it turns out I was using my main admin password on it, not main domain, heh.
The service is very good. I sent an email out to reset a password ( ) at 1AM last night, took a 20-30 min break and came back and the tech support had already responded).
Overall, my transition was smooth, and I'm loving site5 so far (damn passwords!) and I'd highly reccomend them.
I'll update this in a month and see if its still going smooth.
