I have been a customer with LunarPages for 2 months now and I would highly recommend this web host. First I have never encountered any downtime. The speed is consistant eventhough my site has seen an increase in traffic over the last 2 months. The support team was quick to solve any problems that I had. When I first setup my website with them I had issues with my database but they were kind enough to offer me help in finding out the problem. Never had the need to submit a ticket anymore after that. Very glad with their service.
Lunarpages is hands down one good hosting provider. I personally have dealt with the manager of LP direct and he was the most honest, helpful and professional employee of any hosting company I have ever dealt with! There's lots of great hosts out there, but Lunar does stand out for their down to earth customer support and superb services.
I also have the Basic Plan: the plan that when I first bought it, was at 40Gb bandwidth and up to 5000MB space. Now, after several upgrades on their part, my limits are 800Gb and 35,000MB space. Also, only 1 MySQL database was allowed at the start--now they're unlimited. And if I'm right, it's a dollar cheaper per month than back when I first bought the deal.
The sites they host for me are www.bobsnox.com, www.shannaraforums.com (and .net is parked), and www.louisebuhrmannmd.org (the site I built for my mom's boss).
Description of service(s) used: Basic hosting.
How long have you been using the service(s): 9 Months.
Detailed review: I have had a wonderfull experience with the customer support here. 99% uptime has kept its promise.
Pros:
Lots of space and bandwidth. Good customer support.
Cons:
It has gone down some times, but i think that was only because they were updating php versions.
Would you recommend this company to your best friend? Yes.
Mostly, people have good results with Lunarpages, but I am not...I had been using lunarpages.com for more than 1 year and has some problems. I will explain very honestly. You can decide they are right or not.
Once, I asked them to create a subdomain and forward it to another subdomain, one person explained me how to do in a wrong way..I opened another ticket and I got the similar answer.. Finally, third tine, the person who read my last ticket understood and solved the problem in very short time. In this manner, I know that all staff of lunarpages do not have a good techinical knowledge.
Also, they have very very autiomated replies by email, not personal.. And I really don't like it..
One more thing.. They blocked our website twice . First reason was high cpu usage and the other one was that we forgot to upgrade latest version of our application ( they always want to upgrade and keep you infor- that's good) . The worst thing is that our website was offline for more than 24 hours.. They did notreply tickets fast.. I waited for logical reply for 6 hours and they replied email by asking some security questions ( even I provided atthe first ticket ) It is strange.. and very frustrating... That's why, i am working with hosgator now. I hope we will not have such a bad problems..
I've also been using lunarpages for a while. They no longer allow formmail (I've got windows hosting for asp.net sites) and recently moved servers to a new location; my sites were down for 2 days when they moved the server but other than that they've been great.
I have only been using LunarPages for hosting for only about a week and a half now. However, I have been very impressed with their customer support and their hosting solutions.
When I created the account for hosting, I accidentally entered the wrong domain name for hosting for the site. I called the customer service station and to my surprise, they are Americans who speak great English. He switched my domain name that was on record to the correct one and it only took about 10 hours for it to come into effect. Great customer service.
Another thing I like about this site is the cPanel included. It's very easy to set up and navigate. I build affiliate websites, so LunarPages provides me with a quality cPanel for only about $60/year.
Overall, LunarPages has definitely made another returning customer. I highly recommend using them in the future if you like American companies and high quality hosting packages that are affordable.
The basic plan on lunarpages is pointless, they lure you in with unlimited this and unlimited that, the fact is,if you get any traffic on any site, they disable your scripts and politely ask weather you would like to upgrade to a VPS or dedicated server.
I started out with 5 sites on there (When i joined you were told you were allowed a maximum of 10,but on the basic plan this isn't possible with the 1% cpu limit) .
I eventually moved 4 of the sites away from lunarpages (to free hosting and with no problems) as i was fed up with no traffic sites getting shut down for supposed high cpu usage.
Now i am left with one, which does get traffic, but not enough for me to warrant upgrading.
I have seen many people who use wordpress, with all the cache sytems installed, who get less than 1000 page impressions a day get their accounts disabled.
The basic plan is really for people with no traffic, who don't use scripts, because any script that has traffic, even minimum traffic will exceed the 1% cpu limit at least some point during the day, even if its for only a minute.
Thye are happy for you to stay on the basic plan (and take your cash) if you don't have traffic, there are 250+ sites on the server i am on,if they all used their allowable 1% cpu then the server would crash, but they over subscribe because they know that 99% of those sites won't get any traffic at all,so the server as a whole probably never goes above 50% cpu, which is why they should be flexible with those sites that occasionally do go over the 1% limit at certain times of the day, even if they hit say 5% cpu for short periods ,it shouldn't be an issue.
Support do answer you usually within 24 hours, but they never respond to what you ask them, they just give you the standard replies of "thanks for this thanks for that, may i suggest "insert VPS or dedicated plan here"
