After 6 months hosting with Layered Tech, I have been very pleased with the service. The network has been up and running 100% so far and any issues we had were dealt with within 30 minutes.
They offer some great features like instant reboots, port monitoring, OS reloads etc..
Setup time took about a whole day which is rather slow but I can live with that. Most important is their performance is excellent!
I've been a big fan of LT for several years now. I have 4 dedicated servers with them and I have assisted numerous others with the initial setup of servers at LT. The last 2 weeks have been fairly awful though.
First there was the forced move. Basically they are taking everything out of the Savvis data center (as far as I know) and moving it all to another data center. I, like many other 'customers' received an email saying that I had to submit a ticket for each server requesting migration. They would then build a new server at the other data center and it was up to me to move all of my domains and CPanel accounts. I was also told I couldn't keep the current IP range. If I didnt submit the request by their cutoff date my servers would be shut down.
That annoyed me. It's not a trivial job to move several hundred domains and CPanel accounts to a new IP. So I set about checking all the domains...prepared a list of DNS server that would need to be re-registered with the new IP etc and began the process.
The first server went okay. When I did the second server though..on a Saturday...I got half way through and the server went down. I submitted 4 or 5 tickets over the course of the 6+ hour outage and I received 2 canned 'it will be back up momentarily' replies and when I submitted a ticket to general support asking them to check what was going on and get the migration department to reply to my 4 hour old ticket I received a similar response. The server came back up after a little over 6 hours and there was no explanation as to the cause. In this case it was the server at the Savviss data center that went down.
The following Wednesday ... the day after I completed moving all of the accounts etc the server at the NEW data center was down for over 6 hours. I and many other irate customers expressed our frustration in the forums and once again tickets weren't being answered. By this time I had decided that the next new server won't be at LT.
The final straw came today when we discovered that the new IP that LT basically forced us to move to has been listed at SORBS as a hacked/exploitable server since February:
